This morning I had a small job to do in a pub 12 miles away. It wasn’t an urgent job so it didn’t matter too much if I went another day. However I had arranged to go this morning. I set off in good time but it took me at least a half hour to drive about a mile and a half! The roads were covered with ice and traffic was simply crawling along. The local authority had not been out to spread grit, not even on the main highways. That is an absolute disgrace and inexcusable. Not knowing whether the adjacent authority of West Lancashire had been out with the grit spreading vehicles I abandoned the idea of driving the extra 11 miles to my destination and returned home through the town. The roads there faired a little better but only due to the heavy traffic which had ‘warmed’ the roads a bit. The roads had not been treated even here! When I finally got home I telephoned the pub manager and apologised but he was understanding and agreed with me that the authorities had let us all down. I will try again in a day or so. This afternoon I have a job in the town and as the main roads there are better there should be no problem, maybe………
