Frantic, mad world.

Posted by Shirley Anne on December 23, 2009

We haven’t had Christmas yet and we are getting bombarded with adverts for the ‘special’ Boxing Day sales. The world has gone mad, it’s too centred on materialism and the rush to gain more possessions. We are told how much we really need this product or how much we will save if we buy that product and NOW. Hello…..if I don’t buy anything I will save even more! I know that in my home town come 5 in the morning on Boxing Day (26th) there will be queues forming outside the various stores that are holding a sale. What is wrong with people? I’m all for a bargain but I’m not prepared to stand in the freezing cold for a few hours to buy something that might be cheaper and that I’ll be bored with once the novelty has worn off. I’m not that mercenary or even bothered that I might have to pay the full price if and when I buy something. I wonder why items cannot be reasonably priced in the first place. If things can be sold off so cheaply somebody is making an excessive profit for the rest of the time. Give me the simple life where people are not ‘on the make’ all the time and are not rushing here and there for the sake of a bit of a bargain.

All over now?

Posted by Shirley Anne on December 23, 2009

As I write this it is 11.20 on a wonderfully sunny morning. I have been out and completed my final job before Christmas………..or have I? I am not expecting a phone call but you never know do you? Once I got called on Christmas Day. I did respond and re-instated the power supply so that the turkey could be roasted. No, I didn’t charge for doing it. So now I can sit on my butt for a few days. Maybe.
