In life there is death. We all have a common goal. We will all face that final day. This is something that we cannot avoid and yet most of us will not consider the prospect preferring to keep such thoughts firmly at bay. Yesterday I went to a restaurant for lunch. I had been informed the day before that my son and his wife were attending the funeral of somebody well-known to me but with whom I’d had no contact for a number of years. He used to attend the same church as myself but since my leaving that church some almost twelve years ago I had lost contact with him and all the other attendees too. Yesterday I got to talk to a few of them during my stay at the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was how much everyone had aged during the last twelve years. Many were feeling the effects of growing old. We cannot escape our fate and it is a sobering thought that one day our lives will end. I am not trying to be morbid here but it does bring it home that life is short and life is precious. My deceased friend has passed away and will be sorely missed but I believe as do many others, that we will all be re-united one day. That day will be when it is our turn to go. I make no bones about confessing my faith and trust in my God and say with confidence that Jesus has made this possible. In a few short weeks hence we will be celebrating Easter. Many will scoff at that and call it a pagan festival, something that Christians have stolen from pagan beliefs and called it their own but in essence without the sacrifice that Jesus made there is nothing to look forward to after death. As sinners none of us is worthy but He paid our debts in that respect and we can go free if we believe, repent and confess He is Lord. Then we can be with Him in Heaven, along with all our long-lost friends and loved ones. The only other option is nothing……….nothing you want to know about!
