Getting it done

Posted by Shirley Anne on March 9, 2011

As soon as I awoke I had it in mind to get into the garden yesterday morning to do a specific job. When the guys were laying the path around the lawn we discovered that the lawn wasn’t level all the way round. Now there’s a surprise! As if it would be! Anyway it meant either lifting a lot of turf and spreading extra soil beneath before replacing it or, and this was the method of choice, spreading soil over the grass and allowing the grass to grow through it. Of course this may need to be done more than once in places but it seems the best route to take. We can keep traffic off the lawn so it isn’t a problem and in any case it is only around the lawn edges. So after breakfast I went into the garden and started the process of filtering the soil from the huge mound we accumulated over the last couple of months and spreading it where necessary. Eight to ten wheelbarrows later it was completed and it was now getting closer to lunchtime. E joined me after an hour or so but she was doing other things. After I had done that job I dug out some ground next to where the retaining wall for the concrete patio base is to be built and filled it with hardcore. It will be concreted over ready for the construction of a set of steps onto the path at a later stage. I think I would be a good project manager, I seem to have a flair for organising things, perhaps that is due to the fact that I have been involved in the building trade for many years, albeit as an electrician. Speaking of that I got a call to do some work which I will be doing this morning, hopefully to return home for a lazy afternoon.
