More trials

Posted by Shirley Anne on January 10, 2012

Today I arrived at court a little earlier and I awaited a call to sit on the next jury panel. A jury panel is when you are elected to go as a juror on a particular case. They take fifteen people into the courtroom where that case is about to start. They select jurors randomly and as your name is called you answer ‘yes’ and proceed to the jury box, simply two rows of seating to one side of the room. When all the jurors are seated they are then sworn in one at a time for that case. The remaining three would-be jurors (panelists) then leave the court and return to the main waiting area. I was called upon as a juror on a case again today and was the first person selected. It is estimated that the case will last two or three days and if that is correct my jury service will be completed. Just prior to be called to the panel for this case I had been called as a panelist to another case which is estimated to last for eight weeks! In such cases they take many panelists in groups until they have the twelve who are willing to spare their time for that long and who are accepted with no objections from the accused. The process can take some time. I suspect the reason I wasn’t selected, together with another two people to even get in the courtroom for that case was the fact that each of us had a family member who was part of the judicial system for the locality associated with it, in this case the county of Lancashire. My son is a policeman who is stationed in Lancashire. I would have liked being on that case but it was not to be.

They came from the east

The Adoration of the Magi (circa 1305) by Giot...

Image via Wikipedia

Star of Bethlehem appears (see Matthew 2:1-2). When Jesus was born, a star appeared over Bethlehem. Scholars today speculate whether the star was a meteor, a supernatural phenomenon, an alignment of celestial bodies, or a literal star. Many scholars believe that Jesus was born sometime around 4 BC to 8 BC. It is interesting to note that ancient Chinese astronomy records indicate that there was a star-like object hovering somewhere over the Middle East for several days in the year 5 BC, about 2000 years ago.

For the complete story go here http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/loj1.htm

In the Bible it is said that three wise men/magi (magicians)/kings came from the east bearing gifts for a new king as was the custom in those days. It is because they saw a strange star in the west which was pointing the way to where he was that they made the journey. So many people do not believe the Bible and what it contains thinking it is simply a book(s) of fiction, story tales but that is because a: they probably haven’t read it, b: they couldn’t understand it, c: they haven’t studied it in its entirety. Not only is the Bible prophetic but it is also a good history book. For anyone who reads it properly and understands how it came to be, what it says about the future and how it is linked with the past and still rejects the messages it contains, for me, defies logic. The book is challenging and nothing in it has ever been refuted, in fact many prophetic messages have actually come to be, the rest remain unfulfilled for the time being. They await fulfilment in due course. People will believe anything rather than what the Bible says is true and will reject any idea that it might be speaking the truth. The Bible points to this fact itself. What does it take for people to believe? Obviously more than the story of three wise men travelling from the east to meet a new king. It takes a step of faith and a belief in God. It takes a belief in what the Bible says about Him. It takes a touch from the Holy Spirit but most of all it takes an open heart and a willingness to listen, then repent. God will do the rest. Some might just be influenced by a bright ‘star’ that doesn’t move!

Isaiah 9

1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.

4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne  and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Chapter 9 of Isaiah is a prophetic word written some 600 years before the account of the birth of Jesus and the above passage describes that birth. It is worth reading the rest of Chapter 9 which continues the prophecy.
