Wine will do it every time!

Posted by Shirley Anne on March 15, 2010

It’s a funny thing but wine will do it every time! Not only wine either but any alcohol! I had no work to do today which seemingly is the trend lately but no matter. I took E out to lunch/dinner that is she drove us to the restaurant. Now come on let’s be fair, she doesn’t drink these days mainly because of her medications but also partly because she doesn’t like alcohol too much! She let slip that her fuel tank was erring on the empty side so I insisted we go get some fuel. I paid for that as I did for the meal but that is beside the point. Anyhow we were discussing something during the meal and I said ‘I must write about that in my blog’. Well a glass or two of wine later and I forgot what it was! I will probably remember at eleven o’clock tonight as I am going to bed! Then I will forget all about it again. Such is life. The meal was good though. I had breaded mushrooms with a dip for starters followed by chilli-con-carne with an apple crumble and ice cream topping for dessert. E had melon to start followed by a beefsteak and apple crumble with fresh cream for dessert. The red wine on the table was almost emptied my myself but what was left I brought home. I am finishing it off right now! I had a liqueur coffee to round off the meal. I wish I could remember what it was I was going to write about. Ah well no matter………….

Te He

Posted by Shirley Anne on March 13, 2010

An old lady goes into her local photographers studio and approaches the girl at the desk. ‘I have heard that many things can be done with photographs these days. Is it true’? She asked. ‘Oh yes’, said the girl, ‘we can do all sorts of things these days’, she continued. ‘How may we help you’? The old lady replied, ‘Well I have this photo and I would like you to erase part of it’. She showed the girl the photograph and the girl asked what specific thing would the old lady like the studio to do. The picture was of the Queen attending some special event. The old lady said ‘Can you erase that policeman standing just there holding back the crowd’? ‘Certainly’, replied the girl, ‘But why’? The old lady smiled and said, ‘Well I am standing behind him’!

The Toilet.

Posted by Shirley Anne on January 10, 2010

This is something already in my ‘Oddbods’ page and I think it merits being here. I was browsing there and started to read it again. Each time I do that I end up in tears through laughing! The scenario is playing out in my mind’s eye and I cannot help but laugh. That is good for the system you know. Thank you Jakkie (you can read Jakkie’s story on my ‘Friends’ page) for this gem………….

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it’s your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.
Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. You get in to find the door won’t latch. It doesn’t matter. The dispenser for the modern “seat covers” (invented by someone’s mom, No doubt) is handy, but empty. You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there were one, but there isn’t – – so you carefully, but quickly, drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume “The Stance.” In this position your aging, toneless thigh muscles begin to shake. You’d love to sit down, but you certainly hadn’t taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold “The Stance.” To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the EMPTY toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mom’s voice saying, “Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!” Your thighs shake more. You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday – the one that’s still in your purse. That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It is still smaller than your thumbnail.
Someone pushes open your stall door because the latch doesn’t work.
The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet. “OCCUPIED!” you scream, as you reach for the door dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly on the TOILET SEAT. It is wet of course. You bolt up, knowing all too well that it’s too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper – not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try.
You know your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you’re certain, her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, “You just don’t KNOW what kind of diseases you could get.”
By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose that somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too. At that point, you give up.
You are soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You’re exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.
Now, you can’t figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting. You are no longer able to smile politely to them.
A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. (Where was that when you NEEDED it??) You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it into the woman’s hand and tell her warmly, “Here, you just might need this.”
As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used and left the men’s rest-room. Annoyed, he asks, “What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?”
This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public rest-room(REST??? – You’ve got to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked question about why women go to the rest-room in pairs.
It’s so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse and hand you Kleenex under the door.

Another of life’s mysteries solved….

Old Posts.

Posted by Shirley Anne on November 17, 2009

I was just browsing some of my old postings on here and am surprised at the variety of things I’ve talked about. When I first took up ‘blogging’ I never thought I’d find anything to talk about or at the very least I thought my ideas would be short-lived. I haven’t been writing for a year yet but I am hoping I’ll be here for a while, God willing. Sometimes my subject matter comes easily but at other times I struggle to think of something to write about. Sometimes I will experience something in the day which I can write about or I may be reading someone else’s blog and get inspiration there. I have noticed that some bloggers write long essays but write infrequently whilst others will write short articles frequently, much like I do. Some like to write two or three small articles daily, maybe because they’ve nothing else to do! I try to write something each day if I can but I like to keep it fairly short. Readers can get bogged down with too much information and they do have their own lives to lead. My intention is not to use my blog as a platform for preaching my views on any subject but to keep it open and friendly for people to post their own responses reflecting their views in a light-hearted way. That to me is the essence of blogging, it is really a means by which we can chat with each other. I have ‘chats’ at the pub or at a social gathering and this blog for me is an extension of that ideal. Happy ‘chatting’.

Free Food!

Posted by Shirley Anne on October 22, 2009

One of the regular places my ex. and I visit is throwing a food tasting evening tonight by invitation only. The idea is that you get to sample every item on their new menu and then fill out a questionaire regarding what opinions you have about each dish. It’s all free! However we have to buy any drinks we want but that is only reasonable. So four of us are going, my daughter-in-law, my ex., my friend John and myself. Should be a fun evening.

Too Hot for Stockings?

Posted by Shirley Anne on June 30, 2009

A lovely thought just passed through my brain……..I want to put on my belt, stockings and high heels. It is too hot for that though and too humid. These are the days when legs should be free to breathe, nevertheless it would be nice to lounge around in sexy legwear don’t you think just for the fun of it? Many would advocate doing that but I will wait for cooler times.
Tonight I am sitting bare legged and bare footed with only the barest of clothes and I am sweating somewhat because of the humidity. We need a good thunderstorm, forecasted but not yet arrived. Tonight is also clean sheet night so I hope I can have a cool night’s sleep and not have to change them again yet.

I’m Back

Posted by Shirley Anne on June 25, 2009

Well folks, I’m back. Had a great time in New York City and Unadilla (Upstate NY). Met with friends there but unfortunately could not include another friend this trip. Hopefully that will be corrected in August as I have decided to push the boat out this year and take another vacation in Montreal. Now to fund it…LOL. Hey, I’ve never taken two breaks in the same year before and for the last five years haven’t had a break at all! I hope all my readers have been busy enjoying my site whilst I have been absent (I know you have, the stats prove it). Anyhow I will get into the swing again after a good night’s sleep.

Foxy

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 30, 2009

I would call myself a ‘foxy’ lady. Others have said that to me, guys that is. I am not sure what exactly it means. Perhaps it means sly. Gosh I hope not! Cunning? Maybe but even that’s not a nice trait in a lady. I prefer to think of it as coy, shy and retiring…………mwha……..retiring?…Not likely! I am more the life and soul type, especially after a drink or two!
We get foxes visiting our gardens from time to time. We also get red squirrels, bats, natterjack toads, hedgehogs, mice, cats, owls and a variety of other birds too, pigeons, blackbirds, thrush, robins, tits, chaffinch, woodpeckers, magpies, sparrow, gulls, crows, jays. We’d get rabbits too if it weren’t for the intervening roads between us and the coastal land.
The lady in the house is foxy though!

I feel like dancing

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 24, 2009

I feel like dancing, being swept off my feet. Only one snag, I have nobody to dance with and I have two left feet. I should take up ballroom dancing lessons specifically the waltz. You can waltz to almost anything. I have been taken around the floor once or twice but the guys assumed I knew what I was doing. One guy broke into a rock and roll routine, you know, twirling me around like a spinning top and I was supposed to follow his lead but I was never quite sure where he was going! I am not sure he did either! It helps if you’ve had a drink or two. The thing is though I like dancing. I was never one to dance when younger but just got to the floor and did (tried to do) my own thing. Dancing with a partner is good. Maybe I will take a leaf out of my own book, stop procrastinating and go dance.

Erratic views

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 22, 2009

Now I don’t expect a flood of visitors to my blog every day, that would be too much to hope for, wouldn’t it? Looking at my blog stats though the visits are very erratic. Some days there are quite a number but on other days only a few. Oh I am not complaining, in fact I am happy that anybody reads my mumblings, so I say here, thank you so much to those who do. The stats do give an indication of what things on my site get the most traffic. I have many links to other sites and I have a number of pages of my own besides the blogs I write. I have found the area showing the most interest is the page I have displayed under the heading ‘Transsexuality’ (s. Transsexuality). It is a collation of historical incidences and stories about transsexuals from times gone by. It proves one thing to me, people are curious to learn more about the subject. I think this is very much a good thing as there is far too much misunderstanding and a lack of education regarding it.
I should point out that the next most popular page on my site is entitled ‘Shirley Anne’………..LOL………….Thanks everyone!

Tickling your fancy

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 20, 2009

Have you ever had moments of mild temptation where something you normally avoid suddenly becomes very attractive? It may be a ‘naughty but nice’ cream cake, a larger glass of wine or a sudden urge to buy that dress you keep looking at in a shop window. Whatever it is do you find that you quite easily give in to your temptation? Should we not treat ourselves in this way occasionally? Normally I don’t buy ice-cream from a street vendor, in any case I am trying to control my cholesterol levels but once in a while I will give in and treat myself. I believe we are sometimes too hard on ourselves and it can generate feelings of guilt if we ‘let slip’ once in a while. All a question of balance and sensibility I think. Let me encourage you to have a little of what ‘tickles your fancy’ now and then. You’ll feel all the better for it.

Procrastination

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 15, 2009

There are things I know I should be doing and things I think I might like doing before I am incapable! So what do I do? Procrastinate. Yesterday I finally decided to mend the tap (faucet) in the bathroom. It had been bugging me for quite some time and only needed to be opened up, cleaned and adjusted but no, I kept putting it off! Prior to mending it we had to lift it slightly whilst turning it in order for water to flow. How stupid is that? For the sake of twenty minutes investigating the fault I suffered many days, even weeks by leaving the job undone! They say that people who work for others often leave off doing their own jobs at home. Why do we procrastinate? Now getting to things I’d like to do, there are a few. I would like to fly in a helicopter, go up in a balloon, visit unusual places like Antartica, Iceland, Moskow and many other things. What stops me? Well I could make all sorts of excuses from my life at home , my job, lack of funds (when I can actually afford it) or I am not ready yet. Time and tide wait for no man, as the saying goes. Neither do they wait for women! What is stopping me?

Movies

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 5, 2009

I love a good movie. There are many themes I enjoy ranging from romance to sci-fi. There was once a time I would only watch a certain type of movie but these days I am finding enjoyment in all sorts of films. I wrote about stubborness a few weeks ago and talked about people who refuse point blank to try different things in their lives such as trying food they have previously declared ‘off limits’ to them. I think in our lives we tend to get in a rut sometimes. As long as the movie does actually move along it will usually keep my attention. I think it is good to have some sort of escapism in our lives periodically, if only to relieve the boredom and monotony! What say you?

Grand National Day

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 4, 2009

Today is Grand National Day here in the UK and specifically Aintree, Liverpool were I was born and raised (Liverpool). The race is supposed to be the oldest steeplechase horse race in the world. A great event in which much of the ‘civilised’ world takes an avid interest. I am not one to gamble, except maybe the National Lotto each week and I certainly do not gamble on horse racing but I do partake of any ‘raffles’ that may be on offer. Tonight, that is last night (LOL) I subscribed to a raffle. I ‘bought’ two horses in the Grand National. Maybe they’ll win, well one of them but I ain’t bothered, it’s all in fun. Don’t ask me for the names, I haven’t a clue! Too much Lager, JD, Meade and Cherry Brandy! LOL….If I win I will let you know.
If you have placed a bet I wish you luck! Love
