"Take Me Back" (sheet music) page 1 of 4

Image via Wikipedia

Strangely enough music isn’t a subject I write much about even though I love music and even write songs myself. I am no professional of course but I write and play music (on guitar) as a hobby more than anything else. I find music to be very entertaining and relaxing but it can also stimulate, depending on the type of music and the situation in which it is listened to. Rousing music in a theatrical setting isn’t quite the same as rousing music on the dance floor! Music can be soothing, inspiring, relaxing and calming amongst other things and each of us enjoy our own genre. Music is used to set the mood and is used specifically for that reason in the production of movies and advertising. I like most music but it has to be music and not just noise. My tastes range from classical to jazz, blues to rock, heavy metal to folk, brass bands to rock bands, orchestras to ensembles and quartets, in fact almost any type but it all depends on my frame of mind, how I am feeling at the time. Music has the ability to change moods though and is often used for that purpose. Whatever tastes you have in music they should never be limited I don’t think. I am always open to listening to new things and fresh approaches. I need music in my life. I went through a phase when I would refuse to listen to any music for fear of it reminding me of a lost love. Music does that, it touches the innermost part of my being and it is one of the reasons I suppose that I like it. Many people like to listen to music whilst at work but this is something I actually detest because for me it is distracting and I cannot concentrate properly. Such is the power that music can have, over me anyway! Whatever your tastes in music, enjoy it. Music is one of the good things that this life has to offer and there is little to compare to the effect it can have upon us.

Just about sums me up at the moment, except for the last line

You can hear it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgMI0BObEXI  I have a copy of this album from years ago. The band were completely nuts…that’s why I liked them!

At the local dance, whilst posing by the door
A largie begged: “would I come on the floor?”
Above the band, my voice was heard,
Quite suddenly it had occurred to me:
I’m bored!

I’m bored with everything I touch and see
I’m bored with exposes of LSD
I’m bored with Frank Sinatra’s new LP
And so I roar (shoo-be-do-be-do)
I’m bored.

Drinking different coloured wines or beers
(Chug-a-lug chug-a-lug)
Just quite frankly leaves me bored to (tears for souvenirs)
And quite apart from what one hears,
I’ve been like this for years and years
You see? Ennui.

I’m bored with Mother Nature or her son
I’m bored with everything that should be done
And so, I just poke out my big red tongue and [raspberry]
I’m bored.

I’m tired of art!
(Drawing bored)
Sex is a drag!
(In a bawdy house, I dare say.)
Awk! Australians bore me!
(You mean the a-bore-iginals, don’t you?)
I’m bored to death!
(Like mortar board)

I am bored.
[Repeat many times, round-style]
This is boredom you can afford, from Cyril Bored

I hate each Julie Andrews film they’ve made,
I’m just a nasty narrow-minded jade.
Don’t think that I will smile at it,
I’m not a weak-willed hypocrite,
I’ll say: I’m bored!

I’m bored with with-it men in spotty ties
Who hum (hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm) tiresome tunes like Edelweiss
I’m bored, and when I hear it
In a trice, I shout, I’m bored!

The only thing that ever interests me…
Is ME! (Me! Meee! Me! Me!…)

If any of you look at my music page above you might want to know that I have added some more. I have been slowly recording them and placing them on my YouTube channel (the links are on this home page) but there are still more to record and even place on here. When I will do that is anyone’s guess. In the meantime I hope you like them.

My weekend

Wembley Stadium, London England

Image via Wikipedia

Well Saturday morning I had a good lie in bed for a change but somebody telephoned asking if I could do a job for them. It was an urgent job but as I was still in bed and didn’t feel like doing any work I declined. I had it in mind to go to the pub in the afternoon but later, when I was up and about I decided against going there too soon. Here in the UK it is the football (soccer) season and many pubs play live games on their television, my local being no exception. This means a pub packed with football fanatics all getting drunk. O-oh no way Hosea! I have been to these events before but not often and they are not the sort of events to go and see when you want a quiet drink with friends. I decided to go a little later but even when I went at eight in the evening there were still many guys milling about, most of them drunk. I sat with three friends for ten minutes but they left and I was alone for a half hour. Two more friends came in and we sat together in a quieter spot. Soon we had the pub to ourselves with only a few regular customers to keep us company. We had a great time laughing and drinking and late in the evening my two friends left but asked me to join them again on Sunday afternoon for an hour or so. I told them that it was unlikely that I would be there but they continued to ask. Well Sunday afternoons at the pub are similar affairs to Saturdays because they have the football on-screen again until early evening. When the weather is fine, as it was on both days, many more local people are often seen in the seating area outside, so much so that one can hardly find anywhere to sit. I didn’t go to the pub at all on Sunday as I thought I wouldn’t, well I just couldn’t be bothered! In fact I did almost nothing at all on Sunday but when I was sitting quietly watching some television in the evening I decided to pick up my guitar for the third time that day because a song suddenly popped into my thoughts and I wanted to play it a few times and get it down on paper. It took me ten minutes to produce. This is the way all my songs and poems come to me, on the spur of the moment and usually almost in one go. I have no idea why that is. It is another Christian song which I will add to my collection. So that about sums up my weekend, restful, boring at times, fun at times and productive at times.

A labeled anatomical diagram of the vocal fold...

Image via Wikipedia

Well I finally caught up with recording on YouTube. Since I bought the new microphone I have been experimenting with recording some songs of my own, only the music, no vocals as yet. To be honest it has been a long time since I sang in public and since my transition I haven’t really tried singing in my new voice as it were so I am loathed to broadcast vocals unless I have practiced first. My first attempt at recording for YouTube wasn’t a music clip but a message to a friend of mine who lives over in New Jersey. As it has no personal information in the message I have allowed it to be viewed by anyone as I have done with the three (so far) music clips I have placed there. There are two links from this site to my YouTube channel. One is above under Zone 2 and the other is to the right under Minkyweasels Musings (the quicker route). If you have a mind to go see, the go see! LOL. Encouraging comments are always welcome! I would normally place videos on here but WordPress charge for the privilege, Google doesn’t. Many years ago I recorded some thirteen of my songs with a young lady but they were recorded to tape! I still have that tape and a player to play it. I also have a usb turntable I use to convert my vinyl records to didital storage on my computer which has an input socket for microphones or other input devices including tape machine outputs but I have not gotten round to re-record the tape yet. Perhaps one day I might just do that. For the time being I am continuing to experiment with recording straight from my guitar.

I’m a bit daft at times!

Now that I have your attention I am not really daft, honest! A few days ago I was messing about on my computer, an Acer 894 3G, when I discovered yet another of its capabilities. When I bought the machine earlier in the year I decided I would buy a machine with a high-end specification, not because I wanted to spend all that on a computer that was going to have limited use but rather because I wanted to buy something which might prove useful later. Since buying the machine and using it I have found it capable of many things. Getting back to the other day, I was investigating its use in making movies through the built-in webcam, something I didn’t know was possible but reasoned that it might be. After all, why have a webcam that can only be used for communication? So I made a short recording and realised that it was recording sound too. I should have known that because the built-in microphone is used for web communication! I am daft at times! LOL. Now that I knew I could make videos with sound I experimented recording whilst I was playing my guitar. Unfortunately, although the recordings went well, the sound reproduction wasn’t as good as expected and it made the guitar sound ‘tinny’ with little bass, nothing like the instrument itself. I am thinking it might be better to use an external microphone instead. For voice communication the internal microphone is excellent but unless there is a way to adjust the parameters for music recording the external microphone might be the best option. I am not sure how to do that yet. I have programs for editing soumd and video and will need the same for recording. It is early days but I have found a new toy to play with. Perhaps I can record some songs soon, not sure about the singing though! LOL

Since I wrote this (a few days ago) I purchased a usb condenser microphone via the Internet and received it yesterday.

I’m improving all the time

Posted by Shirley Anne on August 23, 2011

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation

Image via Wikipedia

It sounds better than ‘I am getting better all the time’ but whichever way I look at it there has been a vast improvement over the years. I am writing about my guitar playing in case you were wondering what I was getting at. Many years ago when I first started to work as a qualified person I found myself working in another town. At lunchtime I often found it relaxing to wander around the shopping centre and one day came by a music shop, that is one selling musical instruments. In the window several guitars were on display and one in particular caught my attention. I dreamed about owning it or one like it but at that time I couldn’t play an instrument of any kind. I pondered whether I should get the money together and buy the guitar on my next visit but for some reason I rejected the idea. Later in my life I was to regret that decision to some degree. Years passed by and I found myself working in a church on alternate Sunday mornings with young children. The year was 1990. I had a small guitar at home which I had collected from somewhere and I had been tinkering with it on occasion but still couldn’t play it. It wasn’t a proper guitar, really only a toy but it could be tuned reasonably well to make an acceptable noise, almost! I decided to teach myself a few guitar chords for I had it in mind to play some songs for the children who had no live music on Sunday mornings. After a couple of weeks and three or four chords under my belt I decided to take the guitar to church and the children and I, with the help of other members sang a few simple easy to play songs. It turned out to be a great success so every other week there I was leading the children in worship songs. Over the next few months my repertoire grew, I bought a proper instrument and I could play quite a few simple songs reasonably well. One morning as we were singing with the children the leader of the church music group came into the room to see what we were up to. Actually he had come to see me. After the meeting he approached me again and asked me if I would like to join the church band. Well I was flattered for I didn’t think I was that good a player but he told me that my capability was less important than my willingness to give it a go. The following Sunday, when I wasn’t on duty with the children I sat in with the musicians for the Sunday morning service. The lead player of the group, a lovely girl called Susie (Susan) told me not to worry but to play along if I thought I could manage but if not just sit out the songs I felt were too difficult. She was a very experienced pianist who played her own electronic organ and occasionally her flute if she wasn’t playing lead. She was also an accomplished and excellent singer who sometimes performed solos for the congregation. Almost every week she would pencil in the chords in my hymn book and I would pen over them later. It made playing the hymns much easier for me as I am not very good at reading the notes! We played mostly contemporary Christian songs with just a few hymns by comparison. I learned so much whilst I was in that band and I still have most of the songs we played in my personal collection. To make playing easier I condensed each song to one or two lines just writing the chords in sequence so if I could remember the tune, playing it was easy. My knowledge of chord shapes grew and I was able to play most of the songs I came across with just a few exceptions. After a couple of years in the band I was encouraged to lead the congregation occasionally. This was done on a rota basis and there were three of us doing that, myself, Susie and a guy called Nick who was a very accomplished guitarist. To those who told me, it appeared that I was good at leading the congregation and people suggested I might do it more often. Obviously I couldn’t do that but I did enjoy standing there with guitar in hand singing and leading the congregation. I stayed with that church until 1998 so was in the band for eight years. However I left the church a couple of years before my transition which was in 2002 but a couple of years after leaving the church I left off playing the guitar for five years and didn’t pick it up during that time. Realising I missed playing the guitar but finding myself out of church life I took up playing for my own pleasure. The only music I had was that which I played at church so I concentrated on those songs. That encouraged me to learn many more chords. I bought some pop-music song books including many by The Beatles which again resulted in learning yet more chords. Whilst I was a member of that church band I began to write some songs of my own, at that time all Christian songs. I found it very easy. not because I was composing the tunes but because they simply popped into my head, they flowed like water from a tap. The words came just as easy too but for many years I was already writing poetry anyway which helped. In 2005 having not picked up the instrument since 2000 I began once more to play. Since then I play almost every day for an hour, sometimes longer if the mood takes me or I’ll play more than once in the day depending on what else I am up to. I am no professional of course but I can say that I am improving all the time. Mostly I play with a plectrum or pick but I can play some finger-picking style. I am finding that the more I play the more songs I can play from memory which is handy but I still need to expand my repertoire some more. I am also finding that I can play some songs just by ear but the hardest thing with that is getting the key signature right. Nothing is worse than a song played or sung in the wrong key! Some songs lend themselves to be played or sung in more than one key and I have fun transposing them from what is written down on the song sheet! It takes experience to be able to transpose whilst playing but I have come a long way since I picked up that ‘toy’ guitar in 1990. The instrument I now use is my Fender Capistrano acoustic, a lovely instrument and a joy to play. I have included a picture of it on the right. To those with a discerning eye there is a capo clipped to the top of the machine head. It is a handy place to keep it for when I need it, although I mostly tend to play barre chords there are times when it is far easier to use the capo. If you click on the image you will enlarge the photo. I think it is a wonderful thing to have music in your heart but to be able to play for yourself is something special. It takes practice though!

It’s getting harder but I manage

Posted by Shirley Anne on August 17, 2011

I’ve not had much professional work of late but on Monday I had one small job to do. Whilst waiting to go there after breakfast I received another call for more work. The first job didn’t take too long and then I was off to the second job which I knew would take longer as it entailed installing new circuits. Whilst there I received yet another call to do a small job which I managed to get to around one o’clock and finished that in only a few minutes. The second job was a little taxing and I felt my energy draining whilst doing it.  I think I do pretty well for a 65 year-old going on 66! I don’t look my age and don’t really feel it either, under normal circumstances that is! I know a few women of my age that are no way as fit as I am but I suppose the nature of my work keeps me exercised which must help. These days of course I do limit what I do in my work as an electrician and it is nice to be able to pick and choose what work I take on board. I have been doing far more work at home over the last year or so although over the last two weeks I haven’t done anything at home. Previous posts will reveal the reasons for that but I hope to resume further work that needs to be done in and around the garages over the next couple of months. I am quite an active person most of the time but I do like to relax as well. The weather at home hasn’t been that good lately and it has been raining quite a lot. This meant that I couldn’t get out into the garden but on Monday afternoon it was fine and sunny with hardly a whisper of wind so I took the opportunity to sit outside playing my guitar for an hour or so and then did some reading. With a drink or two of course! It’s getting harder but I manage…LOL

Not quite!

Brick wall

Image via Wikipedia

So Tuesday was going to be harder than Monday, it had to be, I did almost nothing on Monday! When I went to work I had a rough idea of what was entailed but not an exact knowledge. I was prepared for work, I was feeling much, much better and I knew I would be alright. Did I tell you that E likes to run over walls with her car? If you look at one of my earlier posts, a few weeks ago, I posted a picture showing the older garage at the right of the house. To the left of the garage is a wall which slopes down to ground level over the last few feet. My van is parked in that garage overnight so I had to pass the wall to get to it. The first thing I noticed was the bottom two bricks had been dislodged and moved about a foot from the wall. Now E has always parked her car in front of the shrubbery to the left of that wall. She drives into the driveway and heads for the garage then reverses back around the wall to park ready to drive off by turning right, out of the driveway. She must have driven over the bottom two bricks and loosened them. When I got back home at 2.00 after my job, I mentioned that she must have dislodged the bricks. She looked a bit perplexed, she hadn’t noticed that she had done that. It is a simple matter to reset the bricks and we do have a small amount of ready-mixed mortar so it isn’t a problem. Many times in the past I have suggested she not park quite so close to the shrubbery as there is plenty of room to do so. She might also have less spiders and cobwebs on her vehicle and possibly less scratches (from the shrubbery when the wind is high). The funniest thing is she didn’t know she’d run over the wall! Strangely enough, a couple of months ago we had various pieces of concrete and stone standing alongside the perimeter wall which is the wall on the right-hand-side of the garage. There was space in front of them (along the wall) to park a vehicle. Now at that time my van was parked in the garage as usual and as work was going on around the front of the house E decided to park her car in this space to keep it out-of-the-way although she could have parked it in front of the garage or even in it (that would have meant moving some stuff but the garage is built for two cars after all). I was behind her car whilst she parked it, ready to stop her from hitting the pile of concrete standing there. This I did but she wanted to manoeuvre the car more precisely. I was shouting stop, stop and banging on the back of the car for her to cease letting it creep any further backwards. Too late! She backed into the concrete and dented the skirt beneath the rear bumper. Fortunately it is a plastic skirt and it was easy to pop back into shape. she does crazy stuff like that sometimes! That’s probably one of the reasons I love her. Incidentally, I park my van in the garage by reversing it all the way from the street so that I can simply drive out in the morning, or any other time. I have yet to hit a brick wall though…LOL!
I got to my electrical job and the lady and I discussed her needs. All the work was in her bedroom, fitting extra power points but the job itself wasn’t all that easy to actually do. I spent four hours there and was quite tired when I’d finished. whilst the lady had gone to get some cash to pay me I walked up the road to where her mom lives, a mere 50 metres or so. I had done some work for her mom last year when she had employed this guy to do all sorts of general joinery and plumbing jobs. She had also asked him to do some alterations to the electrics upstairs but he made a mess of it (well he wasn’t an electrician and shouldn’t really have been doing it). My job had been to correct those mistakes. Later she told me that she had been stupid to allow him to fiddle with the electrics (what can I say?). Anyhow this time she was asking about installing a supply to a water feature in her front garden. I told her what she might expect depending on what materials and fittings came with the water feature and to buy what she wanted (from the reputable supplier she had chosen) and I would make a better assessment having seen what was involved. Personally I don’t think it will be difficult or expensive, quite the opposite and she will be happy about that!
At home, after a quick snack I fixed myself a drink, took my guitar onto the patio and sat playing random songs for an hour. I simply let the songs come into my head, a mixture of pop melodies, Christian songs and some of my own stuff. E had gone to her moms for an hour or two so I was left undisturbed. So the day wasn’t quite exactly as planned. I didn’t do any more work in the other garage (I was too tired!), the electrical job put paid to that. Now today?
Just a point of interest, that is of course if you are interested, many are not! Tuesday or to be precise 12th July (actual date is 11th July and in the old calendar 1st July) marks the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne here in the UK (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Boyne ) and in Southport (as in a few towns and cities) there are marching bands dressed in their orange regalia who visit the town from places like Liverpool just down the coast. I remember every year walking into Liverpool where I lived as a youngster, to see them. Some feel these events are an excuse for drunkenness and violence and indeed that is often the result during the day so they are against them being held. It is also an excuse for religious hatred and bigotry between Catholics and Protestants. If you read the short history you will understand why this is so. One would think that to continue to celebrate an event that happened 321 years ago should now cease but in fact it seems to get stronger year by year! It appears that another brick has been put in the wall between Catholics and Protestants.

At last!

Posted by Shirley Anne on June 5, 2011

Yesterday morning I got stuck into sifting more soil. After around three hours it was time to stop and have a quick lunch and then back to sifting. A further hour or so saw the soil we wanted sifting all done. There is more soil to do at a later date in the area immediately behind the garage. We haven’t decided what to plant in that area as yet and we probably will leave it as it is for now. The area is totally shielded from the direct rays of the sun but is still suitable for growing some plants species. After I had completed my work E was able to plant out the twenty-four beetroot plants she had been growing in pots in the greenhouse. We now have two rows of beetroot, one of carrot, one of onion and a half-dozen gooseberry bushes growing in the vegetable plot, well half of it! We have potatoes growing between the greenhouses and elsewhere in the garden as well as strawberries, more gooseberries, more carrots, rhubarb, raspberry, and a little mint. Inside the greenhouses there are cucumbers, tomatoes chilli-peppers and capsicums. There are a couple of aubergines too. Apples are starting to grow now as are the plums and cherry. The garden now looks more like a garden that the half-wilderness it once looked like. It was early evening when I suggested we have an impromptu barbecue. E was all for it so we got the barbecue out of storage and cooked ourselves some steak and lamb. We made a quick salad to eat with it and a couple of soft drinks. After an hour or so we tidied up. E went indoors but I stayed outside to water the garden and lawn after which I went to the front garden and watered the plants there. I returned to the rear garden with my guitar and sat playing in the cooling evening air for an hour before finally going back indoors. All in all it had been a rather pleasant day.

Up at eight and then….

Posted by Shirley Anne on June 3, 2011

I struggled to get out of bed yesterday morning even though I’d been ‘up’ several times in the night. That however was to pay the little room a visit! When the time came to get out of bed for the day ahead I simply didn’t wish to move. I hadn’t been especially busy the day before although I had been busy enough. A guy was to arrive sometime between eight o’clock and one o’clock to install the dish and wiring for ‘Sky‘ reception. It wasn’t for myself but for our youngest son who has moved back with us for the forseeable future. I have no interest in Sky and probably will not watch any television in the rear lounge. One thing was needed to enable Sky ‘on demand’ reception however was a telephone line and a router close by for the ethernet connection. None of these were available in the rear lounge. After a quick breakfast I went online and searched for a local supplier of telephone extension cables and found that our local Argos store had just one in stock. I was able to reserve it online. E drove me there so there would be no problem with parking. I would go into the store and she would collect me after a short while. As it happened there was a vacant parking space close to the store. I collected the cable and we drove back home, merely a mile away. I began to install the cable when the guy came. After deciding where he was to place the satellite dish I left him to it and continued to install the cable. I had other jobs to do in the garden and before long the guy had finished. E joined me in the garden and while she was pottering about in the greenhouses I mowed the lawn. After lunch E went shopping as usual and I took the afternoon off! I grabbed my guitar, my drink (an alcoholic and soft drink mix, one of many different ones I like to drink, Cider/Cola, Wine/Cola etc.) and sat in the patio for an hour or so. My neighbour tells me she often listens to my playing and enjoys it. Who am I to disappoint her? Before too long E returned with the groceries and I took it all indoors. She has been suffering a lot with her back lately and cannot do much lifting. She was with her mum and her sister whilst shopping so she didn’t have to do any lifting. The rest of the day involved cooking our evening meal and relaxing. Today, this morning, we are going to order and purchase the windows we need for the garage. It appears they will cost £196 to buy them and £517 if we have them fitted. No argument there, I shall fit them myself! I will be dining out with a friend for lunch. E has decided to stay at home.

I had good intentions

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 22, 2011

Yesterday morning I arose quite early, had breakfast and went into the rear garden at 8.30. I was intending to measure the lengths of cable I would be needing for the electrical installation around the patio. With book, pen and measuring tape in hand I set about my task. My next intention was to visit the supplier a little later and buy what I needed. I didn’t want to go there too early knowing that they would be busy and I would simply be standing around waiting to be served. I went there about 9.30 and had the place almost all to myself. To my dismay I discovered that two of the three different cables I wanted were not in stock, one of them would require ordering in any case as it has more cores than the usual cabling kept in stock. Another one would be available in a few days. The third cable was readily available as were the other items on the list, weatherproof boxes, clips, glands and distribution board. The bill was almost two hundred pounds and I have still to pay for the two other cables which will probably cost about eighty pounds or more! I was going to buy the materials and have them ready for another day. I hadn’t intended to do much yesterday but when I returned with what I could, E had other plans. ‘Why not install the distribution board and wiring to the main board in the house’? She asked. The distribution board was to be sited in the garage ready for when the garage wiring takes place (months away yet) and for the patio supply (when I get it next week). Oh well, I hadn’t anything else to do so why not work instead of rest? She offered to help me in any way she could but I suspect it was more to encourage me to work than anything else. She was helpful to some extent and I was grateful for the gesture. So that is what we did, install the distribution board and the wiring to it which took us until 1.30. After lunch I returned to install a socket-outlet beneath the new board. It will form part of the new wiring when it is completed later but in the meantime it gives us a permanent supply where we had to run a long extention lead beforehand. E then went out with her mom to get the weekly shopping and I got the afternoon off! I sat on the front door step playing some guitar in the hot sun before giving up after a while because it was too hot. I went inside for a spell longer and then spent the rest of the afternoon lazing about in the rear garden until E returned after five o’clock. I have something in mind to do today but I am wondering if it will get done or not yet. It is work that we had scheduled to be completed by E’s nephew but I am tired of waiting for him to do it. He should have done it weeks ago and he keeps promising that he will do so soon.

Wearing down my fingers

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 16, 2011

I’ve been rather busy working at home and in my vocational job albeit less so. Working my fingers to the bone as the saying goes. Every day I play guitar for a minimum of half an hour but more often an hour and if I do play half-hour sessions I do it twice! Very rarely do I leave off playing the guitar for a day. Consequently my fingers do take a hammering, that is those on my left hand, for it is with my left hand that I hold down the cords. It is only when I finger-pick the guitar that my right hand fingers have much to do but as I mostly play with a plectrum that isn’t often. Naturally the skin on my fingers hardens with use as do any guitarists fingers. There comes a time though, when playing, that I have to stop because my fingers are getting sore otherwise I would play all day long! I love my music and I get a great amount of pleasure from playing my guitar, wearing down my fingers or not!

Yet again

Posted by Shirley Anne on February 13, 2011

I got into bed rather late last night and subsequently arose very late too at around 11am. By the time I eventually got downstairs in was almost 1.45pm! The best part of the time was the soaking in the hot bath. I wasn’t feeling too well or rather I was feeling very tired with aches and pains probably caused by the work I’ve been doing at home recently. Anyhow although I was tired when I went to bed I still couldn’t drift off to sleep straight away so on went the bedroom television. I don’t know why I watch television in bed as I invariably fall asleep half-way through a program or movie. Well last night they were showing The Rocky Horror Show movie featuring Tim Curry and others like Meatloaf for instance. I have seen the film a few times now and was tempted once to go to a live performance on stage but never did. On reflection I think I should have. It is one of those shows which never seem to age and Tim Curry as a mad scientist, who happens to be a transvestite or maybe a transsexual, plays a wonderful role. Sometimes I think he was more convincing than the real thing!
