This Woman

Posted by Shirley Anne on September 4, 2009

I don’t often talk about my past these days but this morning was a time of reflection as I look back over the last few years. Since my full transition, almost seven years ago now (14th Oct 2002), I have seen many changes in myself and in the way I have been accepted by others. Most people know nothing about my past and accept me for who I am, just another woman. Only those who knew me before know the facts and maybe one or two of the more discerning I meet figure it out. At first and looking back now, I was very naive in many respects. My mode of dress has matured but by that I don’t mean I wear clothes for the ‘mature woman’, rather the clothes I wear are less flamboyant and more co-ordinated and tasteful. My make-up is similarly more enhancing rather than obscuring if you know what I mean. My hair has taken it’s time to grow out and I resist all suggestions to cut it ‘like older women do’. No thank you, I like long hair and as a bonus it makes me look younger too. I see many women of my age with the ubiquitous short hair and I don’t like it, for me that is. I guess that’s the rebel in me. Even at work I dress smartly, well smartly enough for work! I wear make-up and clothes that are reasonably presentable for everyday wear. My clothes do get a bit of harsh treatment at work sometimes so I wear things I don’t mind getting a bit dirty. It just means I have to have plenty to change into. My attitude has changed too and I am far less self conscious than I was at first. I get compliments regarding my youthful looks quite often and am frequently asked what my secret is. I am also asked about my husband…LOL. I am far happier now than I have ever been and being the woman now that I always was but denied is such a wonderful thing.

Lynn’s Story

Posted by Shirley Anne on April 1, 2009

I encourage my readers to read Lynn’s story. It will help to explain many issues facing transsexual people to those who might lack that understanding.

Journey

Posted by Shirley Anne on March 24, 2009

People I know are on a journey, a personal journey, one which I have taken myself. These journeys are for a special reason. They are not simply journeys that people undertake every day. They do have similarities in that they have a beginning, a middle and an end. All journeys have a starting point and a finishing point to be sure and the travelling between the two can be boring, exciting, mundane, adventurous, many different things in fact. The whole point of the journey is to get from A to B. The bit in the middle is not as important although if the journey is to be enjoyable that is important in itself.
Well what are these journeys these people and I have made or are presently undertaking? They are life changing journeys and they are essential to the traveller for their own well being. They are journeys which are taken so that the traveller may fulfill a lifetime ambition to become their true selves. These people were born with a defect if you will, one which needs correcting. They are transsexual. They were born in a body which wasn’t right for who they really are inside.
Imagine if you will that you went to sleep one night and woke up in the morning still you but your body was not yours, it belonged to somebody else. Maybe the body of someone in the opposite gender. Imagine then that you had to go through the whole day trying to explain who you really were inside when everybody looking at you could see the opposite. You are a guy and they see a girl. You are a girl and they see a guy! It would be very awkward to say the least. Now imagine you had to spend the rest of your life like that. How horrible would that be? What could you do to correct it? Suppose you could make a journey, a journey to a place where you could make that correction, wouldn’t you buy a ticket immediately?
This is what it is like to be transsexual. This is why these people make the journey. This is why I made that same journey.

Life’s Journeys

Posted by Shirley Anne on February 17, 2009

In my previous post I mentioned something about life, whether it is the journey through it or the final destination. We can only experience the journey until we take our final breath, which I suppose then is the destination. Some of my friends both present and past are taking or have taken an unusual journey in their lives. A journey which will most certainly change and has changed their lives for ever. These friends are transgendered and specifically transsexual. (You can read about Transsexualism in my pages and links). Their journey will be much like my own journey (see my pages) but with differing personal issues. The journey isn’t an easy one to make and it isn’t one that is taken lightly or on a whim as some people might think. It is difficult for many people to understand what it means to be transgendered and transsexual because they don’t have that experience themselves. What they lack is an education in these matters and it would be a good thing if they could take the time to read about the condition and perhaps in doing so gain a real understanding. Life is in itself a journey and we learn as we go along. Everthing we learn makes us more wise, more informed and more well balanced as a human being. Enjoy your own personal journey but consider others who’s journeys are not so easy to make.
