Thank you for your visit and your comment Caroline. I hadn’t given the mosquitos a thought but yes, they and other things are good reason to be living here although I have to say Scotland is just as bad in the summer! I remember taking my young children on a camping/touring holiday to Scotland many years ago and the mosquitos were such a pest. Thankfully they weren’t the biting variety but still a pest nevertheless.

I get fairly regular try outs of living in a warmer climate when as now I visit family in the south of France. On the surface it is marvellous but the longer you stay the more of the downsides you start to see.

Today the downside is mosquitos after they have had a damp spell and the garden has become a no go area! Thank goodness we are not camping…

Soon it will probably be too hot even for the mosquitos, guess the Uk is not so bad.

Thank you for your thoughts Helen. You are right about your assessment of me, I am those things but as you say even you have experienced similar feelings. You seem to have hit the nail on the head too in your account of what happened last week. Perhaps we are expecting something better in our lives?

This was a sad read for me, you always sound so together and philosophical about life. That’s not to say I don’t get where you are coming from because I totally do. I had a simialr experience last week. Friends of mine asked me over for a meal and an evening of drinks. As you know I live on my own so for days I looked forward to that night. After a couple of hours I realised it was the same old conversations and the same old subjects that I felt ‘why was I so looking forward to this? I came home feeling very flat.

It wasn’t the quiz nor the folk I was with that made me just up and go. In fact I was enjoying it. I said I got bored with it all but it wasn’t those things specifically. I fear it is something deeper than that. It’s as though my life seems useless and pointless to me sometimes and this is the reason I think that I lose interest in everything occasionally and why I just cannot be bothered with it all. To be really honest with you Lucy it is only my faith in God that keeps me going and the knowledge that there is something better for me when this life is over. In the meantime I feel I am just going through the motions doing the same old things that everyone else is doing. You could call it a ‘Job’ experience (if you’ve read the book you’ll understand what I’m saying). You are right about plenty to do at home but at the moment I am not doing any of the many tasks I have planned at home because of my present situation there which incidentally have nothing to do with my present feelings. I have mentioned this in one of my posts.Thanks for your comment Lucy.

Just sitting there drinking, and doing trivial things, can suddenly seem a bore. I don’t think you’re at all odd for wanting to leave. I’m much the same: I don’t stick around if it’s of no interest. Besides, there’s generally plenty of stuff to do at home!

That tale of the impatient tailgating driver who just has to do a Ben Hur when he can strikes a chord with me. I’m no slouch where speed is concerned, and I will drive up to 90mph on motorways if I need to – perfectly safe to do this in my car – although mostly I stick to 80mph. Or less, if I feel tired.

But on town roads, with pedestrians and bikes and prams and animals about, I religiously keep to the speed limits. And I see the same stuff that you do. I get tailgated by drivers too, and they may not actually be in a special hurry, they just do it from habit. I’m sure that I’m cursed as a ‘typical Volvo driver’ if not also as a ‘typical woman driver’.

Sigh.

Sometimes I wish I had a switch I could flip on my car’s dashboard, to slow down their engines, or apply their brakes, overriding whatever they wanted to do. Or backward-facing machine guns…!

Hi Clare. I’ve always believed in having a well balanced and healthy diet but it only in more recent years, say twenty or so, that I have taken what I eat more seriously and even more so since my transition. I think a good diet is very beneficial in many ways. It is so easy to eat all the wrong stuff and end up with all sorts of resulting ailments I feel.

Britain it is five a day, but in other countries there are other numbers. My test with fruit is, do I want it? I want grapes more in the morning.
