Spirit world

I used to have an open mind about whether ghosts exist or not but now I believe there are no such things insofar as they are apparitions claimed to have been seen by many people. I do believe in the spirit world and as a Christian I am warned about the forces of darkness, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’ (Ephesians 6). I believe that apparitions or ‘ghosts’ are manifestations of evil spirits and those who get involved with them through ghost hunting or ghost seeking don’t know what they are dabbling with. Those who put their faith in Jesus Christ are given protection against the forces of darkness if they call upon him but even Christians can be fooled if they are found off guard. When I was very young I saw what I thought was a ghost, an apparition at the bottom of my bed. It was in the form of my then only brother. He was actually lying alongside me as we shared a bed when we were young. I have never had a similar experience since but I have sometimes heard strange noises at home that I couldn’t account for such as the sound of footsteps or what seemed to be footsteps at the time when only myself was at home. Last Friday I had been out working in the morning and in the afternoon I decided to stay at home and spend some time on my computer. E had gone out for an hour or two and I was alone in the house. I had stopped working on the computer and spent some time with my guitar before returning to the computer an hour or so later. I had been sitting quietly for a few minutes when I heard the sound of the front doors being opened, that is the outside door then the inner porch door followed by the sound of someone going up the stairs. I thought it was E returning home but then realised the footsteps would have been too rapid for her because of her incapacity. She cannot move quickly anywhere and far less up the stairs. I then assumed it must be my youngest son who has a key and does visit the house quite often. When the sound had ceased a minute or so later I decided to go and see who it was but I noticed that the walking stick E uses when at home was still in the corner which meant she was still out. She uses another stick when going out somewhere away from home. The front gates leading the garage she uses were still open when I looked which meant she hadn’t returned home or else she had made a quick visit and then went out again. My son’s car wasn’t outside the house either, so I knew he hadn’t visited. He never leaves without saying goodbye and he would have known that one of us would have been at home because the house alarm wasn’t set. That meant that I had either imagined I’d heard the sounds or they were indeed real and made by some unseen spirit. Now I am not given to imagining things like this and the sounds were so convincing, enough for me to get out of my chair and investigate. When E came back home later I asked her if she had returned home earlier and then gone out again and she confirmed that she hadn’t. In any case I probably would have seen her as it was only a minute or so before I went to investigate after hearing the footsteps. She wouldn’t have been able to move fast enough for me not to see her. So who or what made the sounds? This isn’t the first time I have heard noises in the house that couldn’t be accounted for but who knows, maybe I am going slowly bonkers after all? I don’t think so.

  1. Shirley Anne,
I am the “author” of the “Demons” article that you linked to above. Since the article is strictly Bible verses referring to Demons (by far not all of them – there are too many), I can’t really say that I am the “author” since the Holy Spirit would carry that title.

Your story is interesting to say the least and it is only part of the reason that I published the “article” that I did regarding demons. There are so many tv shows out there and people are so brain washed about ghosts all the way from the cartoon “Monsters” and the like to the ghost hunting tv shows out there. These people really don’t have a clue what they are dealing with and they really need to stay away from it and seek help from God – and I don’t mean calling a priest for an exorcism.

As a true Christian, we have been given the power through the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ to exorcise the demons ourselves and if done in the name of Jesus Christ, the spirits will leave. The only problem with this concept is that the person trying to do this exorcism MUST have absolute and utmost faith in Jesus Christ and that He WILL remove the spirits.

Luke 10:19 – Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

If you don’t have total faith in God to remove the spirits, you may end up like this:

Acts 19:15 – And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

If you are dealing with a house, I strongly suggest that everyone but yourself (or whomever is doing the exorcism) and then openly talk with God (pray) and bare your soul to Him and make sure that there is nothing unclean within yourself. Make sure your heart is clean and faultless before God or this will not work. Then, with your Bible in hand, go from room to room (stopping in each) and pray for God’s Spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ (say this out loud, commanding the spirits to leave), remove the spirits from the room and consecrate the room to Christ so that the evil spirit will not come back. If you have ANY doubt in your mind that God will remove the spirits, you WILL fail. Repeat this practice in all rooms of the house – the spirit could hide in a closet for all we know.

I am very familiar with demons and possession. THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS “GOOD SPIRITS”. Even if they don’t “bother” you, they need to be GONE!!!

As an afterthought, Please, for your own good and that of the others around you, Please stay away from any form of dark/evil spirits – even if it might be a tv show about zombies or aliens or vampires – they all fall into the same pit when it is all said and done.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Ephesians 4:7 Neither give place to the devil.

I could go on, but I think you might get the idea. Stay away from the temptations and when they are around resist them, if needed, do it out loud! Of course, you must do all this in Jesus’ name or you are wasting your breath. The key here is to walk closer to God (as close as possible) than you are Satan, the demons, the devil or even the temptations.

God bless you and I will be praying for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at my site.

  2. Gosh what a lengthy reply. I very much appreciate what you are saying and especially for the concern you have for me as a Christian sister. I also thank you for reminding me of the authority in Jesus’ name given to all Christians to drive out forces of darkness. Many years ago, not too long after I became a Christian I was invited to go along with my pastor and one of the church elders to a house in order to rid it of some demonic spirit. All I remember about the incident was me praying that Jesus take control of the situation whilst my brothers ‘exorcised’ the spirit in His name. About the supposed ‘presence’ in my house, I have yet to establish whether there actually is one! Whilst understanding the seriousness of the possibility of there being one I wrote my post more in the way of ‘tongue in cheek’ as I fancy I had imagined it all. Should the need arise to rid the house of any evil presence I will surely invite a brother or sister in Christ to join me in expelling it (Matt.18:19-21 and Eccl. 4:12). When I first became a Christian, about a year after moving into my present house, I dedicated the whole house to God and for Him to use it for His purposes. I have yet to see what that might be but The Lord God does things in His own time does He not? Once again brother I thank you for your response and pray The Lord will keep you safe.
