I was born into the material world and am stuck with that. The desires of the flesh, the lusts of the mind, the sights for the eyes and sounds for the ears to hear are all part of this existence. Those drawn to the materialistic side of life are lost to it for they know little else and are not prepared to seek out the spiritual. We are spirit beings but for the moment live in the material world. We are here for a reason. This life is a testing ground if you will. It tests our ability to resist temptation. It tests our ability to love and not be selfish, to be humble and not proud or boastful, to be kind and not be arrogant, aggressive or mean. Everything we do is recorded and those who think otherwise are in for a huge surprise. Everything we have will remain after we are gone, our treasured possessions, if we have any, will be given to someone else or be destroyed. What we thought was important now has no meaning or use for a spirit being no longer in the material world. For those who are wise, they never did. Which is more important, what you own, what you possess or how you treat your fellow beings and how generous you are? If in your life you are number one there is something wrong but you will most probably not know. If you do know then it is even worse unless you change your attitude. The material world has its attractions but they don’t last. How many times have folk enjoyed themselves in some way only to find they need to do it again or look for something better? They never will. The pleasures of this world are so transitory.
‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’
Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator – who is for ever praised. Amen.
