The grass is greener

I cut the lawn for it’s first time this year a few days ago. It was lush and green after all the recent rain and warmer weather. Spring had arrived and thoughts turned to warmer days ahead. How many times I’ve wondered what it must be like elsewhere in other people’s lives. Is their grass any greener than mine? Is it worth the journey to find out? I suppose we all think like this now and then. At the end of the day we will find that our lives are not much different than anybody else’s. Their grass is just as green as our’s, our’s just as green as their’s. The fundamental things we share are just the same. It sometimes appears that other people’s situations are better than our own but you’ll find the same old problems in their lives as we have in our own. They have weeds in the grass just as we do. Read Ecclesiastes, the whole book in the Bible to understand the futility of many things we do. It will fascinate you, I promise. Spending spree reprise

Well I did it again. My ex and I went on another spending spree today and I spent £360 on clothes for each of us. We visited just the one store and it was full of older people milling about. My ex thought we had stumbled into an old people’s home! they were everywhere…LOL. Bless ’em. There were lots of things I liked, dresses, skirts and such but they didn’t have my size in stock, typical. It must be that my size is popular (14/16) although I can wear 12 sometimes. I don’t know why sizes are not consistent store to store. Anyhow I didn’t specifically go shopping for skirts and dresses. I went to buy some tops and a raincoat, which I did buy. I ended up buying another pair of shoes too. What is it with me and shoes? Tehe….I’ll be opening a shoe shop soon!

Something about trees

I have always loved trees. They are the most majestic of plants and to me seem as though they have personalities. Many of them have been around far longer than I and most probably will still be around when I have long since passed away. One tree I saw many years ago was reckoned to be 3000 years old but nobody was quite sure about that. This particular tree was undoubtably very old. There is nothing nicer than taking a woodland stroll and looking at the sun through the glorious green canopy. The ‘dapple’ effect on the ground and the bright shafts of sunlight beaming through, especially effective when the air is misty. There is an eco-system beneath the trees in a forest or wood, a sanctuary from the more severe climate surrounding it, whether that be hot or cold. I play fantasy stories in my head as I walk through the woods, imagining all sorts of senarios. I feel a great sense of belonging when I am among the trees.

Forgetful

One thing I can say with all honesty about myself is that I have a good memory. Long term memory that is! I can remember many things from my past even conversations I have had with people many years ago. They say that many people never forget a face and that is true with me although I have tremendous difficulty in remembering somebody’s name if I haven’t seen them for a while, unless they are family or friends. Don’t ask me what happened a day or so back though, I probably couldn’t tell you or if I remember an occasion or something that happened I quite often cannot remember when it was if it was recent. I get telephone calls from people I have worked for just weeks before and I have to ask them who they are and where they live. I will say something like, ‘please remind me where you live’,or ‘what was it I did for you’? So although I have a good memory in so far as I can remember incidences, faces and occasions and from way back in the past, I cannot always remember more recent things or at least when they happened. So I guess I have a poor short-term memory but a good long-term one.

Praise

How wonderful it is to be praised, to be appreciated for doing something for somebody. This morning I went to do a job for a lady who lives 12 miles away. It was a simple job, well simple for me as I do this sort of thing most every day but for her my services were greatly appreciated. I accepted her gratitude with modesty. The point I make is that it makes the world of difference to somebody when you appreciate them and let them know. The little words of encouragement, acknowledgement and gratitude can make somebody feel wanted and appreciated. We sometimes don’t think before we speak and in doing so can make somebody feel deeply hurt. How much nicer to pay compliments now and then, to praise somebody for something they have done for you. It will change their day for the better. So give praise where it is due and encouragement if it isn’t. Make someone’s day!

I feel like dancing

I feel like dancing, being swept off my feet. Only one snag, I have nobody to dance with and I have two left feet. I should take up ballroom dancing lessons specifically the waltz. You can waltz to almost anything. I have been taken around the floor once or twice but the guys assumed I knew what I was doing. One guy broke into a rock and roll routine, you know, twirling me around like a spinning top and I was supposed to follow his lead but I was never quite sure where he was going! I am not sure he did either! It helps if you’ve had a drink or two. The thing is though I like dancing. I was never one to dance when younger but just got to the floor and did (tried to do) my own thing. Dancing with a partner is good. Maybe I will take a leaf out of my own book, stop procrastinating and go dance.

Apophis, 2029, 2036

I am not sure whether most people are aware of the forthcoming visits of Apophis to Earth in the years 2029 and 2036, Apophis is an asteroid and is one of several that have or will come into a relatively close encounter with us. ‘Relatively’ here means 45,000 miles. That is very close indeed and would only take a small shift in it’s solar orbit to actually hit us. One hundred years ago (8 June 1908) in Tungusta, Russia there occured vast devastation over a forrested area in which thousands of trees were felled by what was probably an asteroid colliding with the Earth. Apophis is reckoned to be much larger than that object. If it did collide with us there would be devastation on a huge scale. Many lives would be lost even by those in places remote from the collision. We all know the story, the theory that is of how the dinosaurs became extinct. It may have been caused by such an object, although that one was possibly far larger than Apophis. The thing is, the asteroid does not necessarily have to be very large to be destructive on a large scale. The elder amongst us may not worry about such things but for others the danger is going to be very real.
There are tentative plans to attempt to deflect such objects should they be in orbits which come dangerously too close for comfort. However, politicians being what they are, even now are dragging their heels over this one. Let’s hope some action is decided upon before it is too late!

Erratic views

Now I don’t expect a flood of visitors to my blog every day, that would be too much to hope for, wouldn’t it? Looking at my blog stats though the visits are very erratic. Some days there are quite a number but on other days only a few. Oh I am not complaining, in fact I am happy that anybody reads my mumblings, so I say here, thank you so much to those who do. The stats do give an indication of what things on my site get the most traffic. I have many links to other sites and I have a number of pages of my own besides the blogs I write. I have found the area showing the most interest is the page I have displayed under the heading ‘Transsexuality’ (s. Transsexuality). It is a collation of historical incidences and stories about transsexuals from times gone by. It proves one thing to me, people are curious to learn more about the subject. I think this is very much a good thing as there is far too much misunderstanding and a lack of education regarding it.
I should point out that the next most popular page on my site is entitled ‘Shirley Anne’………..LOL………….Thanks everyone!

Interruptions

For most of my life I have been plagued with interruptions of one sort or another. I would be concentrating on a task only to have somebody wanting me for something else. Other times the phone will ring just as I am about to do something or I may actually be half-way through doing something. I could be in a conversation with somebody only to be interrupted by somebody else calling on the phone, knocking on the door or just asking a question. Seemingly important to them but very annoying to me and ignorant too. Is it just me or does everyone have this problem?

Who’s Nuts?

I saw this posted on Yahoo today………

I (editor) see a lot of strange news stories in this job and this one, which was featured recently in a German newspaper, is up there with the strangest.

A judge in Stuttgart, Germany, is currently trying to decide on a lawsuit in which a man hired his neighbour to impregnate his wife.

It gets weirder.

Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, were very keen to have a child together, but Demetrius was sterile so they began to seek out other possible options.

The option the couple eventually decided on was to hire their neighbour Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate Traute.

Maus, who was already married with two children agreed to do the job for the fee of €2,000. For three evenings a week for the next six months, a total of 72 different times, Maus tried to impregnate Traute.

When his own wife objected, Maus explained that he was “only doing it for the money.”

After the unsuccessful six-month period Soupolos insisted that Maus take a medical examination. The doctor concluded that Maus was also sterile, which forced his wife into admitting that their two children did not belong to him.

Soupolos is now suing Maus in an effort to get his money back. Maus’ argument is that he did not guarantee conception, only that he would try his hardest.
