What a sad world

Revelation 13:16-18 (NIV)

16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

I happened to have seen an advertisement on the television during a program I had been watching and it was in regard to a new model of mobile phone by manufacturer ‘Samsung‘. Like most adverts use of subtleties, suggestions and general assumptions were used to convey the idea that we, the public, wanted what was advertised. Throughout the advert a song was being played, the words of which suggested we did, ‘Give them what they want’……Well maybe I am the odd one out here but that suggestion is a subtle way of attempting us to believe that we want the latest product because everyone else wants one and I am not taking the bait. In fact I don’t like the kind of technology that one day threatens to run our lives. If you don’t believe that then just look around and see how many people are joined at the hip to their ‘smart’ phones. No-one takes any notice of their surroundings anymore, their eyes are glued to their little (or big) screens and their ears are being pumped whatever sounds they are tuned into. This is only the beginning, technology is only in its infancy despite what has been achieved so far. You can be sure more is to come. In relation to the Bible verses above one day technology will dispense with the need to carry cash, cards (even those with RFID chips) or smart phones to make purchases. The technology will be inside us! Those who allow it that is. However, as the verses state, nothing will be purchasable without it! We will be under the control of others………….Okay it might not happen during our own lifetime but there again the technology is already here and in some countries people really do have RFID chips implanted. Imagine what the world would be and will be like when everyone has implanted technology………

Read the Book of Revelation. It is the last book in The Bible for a reason……

Things will change, you can count upon it

The Lord’s devastation of the earth Isaiah 24:1-6

1 See, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth
and devastate it;
he will ruin its face
and scatter its inhabitants –
2 it will be the same
for priest as for people,
for the master as for his servant,
for the mistress as for her servant,
for seller as for buyer,
for borrower as for lender,
for debtor as for creditor.
3 The earth will be completely laid waste
and totally plundered.
The Lord has spoken this word.
4 The earth dries up and withers,
the world languishes and withers,
the heavens languish with the earth.
5 The earth is defiled by its people;
they have disobeyed the laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth;
its people must bear their guilt.
Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,
and very few are left………..

How and when will God devastate the earth? (Isaiah 24:1–6)

To this point, Isaiah’s warnings have been about God’s judgment on specific nations. But here he broadens the word of doom to encompass the entire world: destruction will come to all who sin.
The picture he paints is of devastation so complete that it will rival the flood God sent in the time of Noah. Ruin its face (v. 1) suggests a disaster that will change the contours of the planet, much like the flood did. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, droughts and crashing meteorites have the potential to do that. This much is clear: God, not human beings, will lay waste to the planet in judgment for sin.
We don’t know when this destruction will happen. But Isaiah seems to say that after the earth is laid waste (v. 3), God will make a new creation (26:1). Perhaps this will be in the last days of human history, when God defeats evil once and for all. Because many scholars have interpreted the message this way, chapters 24–27 are known as the “Apocalypse of Isaiah.”

Taken from NIV Quest Study Bible

Isaiah was one of The Old Testament prophets living hundreds of years before the birth of Christ. He foretold of Christ’s birth which as we all know came about….viz….

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
(Immanuel means God with us)

Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Do you therefore suppose that the devastation of the world isn’t going to happen as the prophet says? We have an all-powerful and mighty Creator God. Believe.

Regrets

Many times in my life I have made decisions that I later regretted, as we have all done no doubt but unless we learn from them we can end up in a miserable state. Bad decisions can be reversed, bad habits eliminated if we make the effort. It is too easy to simply go with the flow or to make the decision not to change things in our lives. We can be so lazy when it comes to self-discipline sometimes. We have to realise the benefits we can reap by making necessary changes. Some though are that stubborn they will never change, even if at the possibility that the change would be in their favour! They don’t like being told they are wrong or that there is a better way. It is all to their detriment however and sadly some will go to their graves not knowing how much better it could have been. I was watching a video on YouTube recently where the subject was about Biblical prophecy concerning the ‘End Times’. So many things written in Scripture focus on prophecy, almost one-third of the Bible itself! Of course not all will be aware of such things because in some instances they have never heard about The Bible and in other instances unbelief and stubborn hearts are a stumbling block. Prophecy is God telling us what is going to happen in the future so if we refuse to listen we are putting ourselves in danger. Many Biblical prophecies concern events which actually came to pass many years ago but many concern events yet to happen. Prophetic signs point the way and show us even now that events happening today seem ‘to indicate we may be heading fast into those ‘End Times’.

The video mentions things like one world government, cashless society, RFID chip technology and other things. We are most certainly heading in the direction of the end times. Many of these things are not on the face of it a problem but the evil behind them is. They are insidious and the people are too stubborn and blind to see it. There will be a price to pay for ignoring the warnings as Scripture again tells us. Those who receive in themselves the ‘Mark of the beast’ will have no opportunity to regret it, their fate will be unchangeable. Scripture tells us that they will be cast into the fire (hell). You don’t want to be in hell regretting a decision you had the ability not to make in the first place. This is a call to make the right decision right now by turning to Jesus Christ before it is too late.

Progress?

Slowly but surely it nibbles away
At each precious second
In each precious day.
Turning around you don’t notice it’s gone
Your freedom, your choices
Your liberty won.
Deceived you are taken along with the flow
Then suddenly there is no place you can go,
Controlled you are led down the path of despair
There’s no turning back and nobody cares.
But wait, there is time to resist
There’s a path through the darkness
A path through the mist.
The choices you make as you open your eyes
Will determine salvation or end in demise.

P technology
P technology (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I was working in someone’s house a couple of days ago and during some conversation we discussed technology and the advancement and use of it in our daily lives. The couple who lived there were professional people, that is educated to a high level and holding down professional jobs. One, the lady, was a university lecturer and the man was a qualified engineer who was now working in information technology and its developement. I had to let them know that my views on technology were not the same as their own. I don’t like technology. I don’t like the way it is slowly weaving its way into our lives until we become totally dependent upon it. Don’t misunderstand me, there is good technology and there is technology we could well do without. Technology in medicine must be a good thing if it aids in diagnosis, prevention of incapacity or death and in treatment. Industry often relies upon technology. In other areas of our lives such as transport, communication, entertainment or simply to allow us an easier life at home I am not so sure the benefits outweigh the losses. Too many folk these days are glued to liquid crystal or diode displays, that is television, computer and mobile devices such as telephones; smart phones they call them. Oh yes they are smart alright but slowly they will take over how we live our lives, if we let them, and I know that will be inevitable for many for they cannot see what the future has in store. Their minds are closed as are their hearts, they actually want to go with the flow but there is a price to pay and perhaps one day, if prophecy is true, it will be too late to turn back.

A rebel

I have never really been one who goes with the flow so to speak, never one who does things just because everyone else seems to be doing it. I hate change just for the sake of it or especially change that results in a backward step that doesn’t benefit anyone. I am a rebel at heart to the things I feel don’t justify my interest. I am a self-confessed cynic too I suppose and will voice my opinion in regard to something I feel is stupid or is pushing me into a corner unless I submit. Over the last few years in particular I have grown to hate what goes on in the world, mostly because of my Christian faith but partly also in the everyday things directly affecting my life. I can see where it is all heading and I don’t like it. However there is little I can do about it so I have to endure and try to influence wherever and whenever I can. The greatest influence on my attitude to life on this planet is The Bible, a collection of 66 books by 40 different authors all inspired by God yet although most of them had no contact with the others or had read anything they had written, the writings are all connected to the same theme. About one-third of the writings are prophetic and some of those prophecies talk about the present day and the days to come. What I am trying to point out is the fact that many of the things we are now in the process of undertaking have been foretold. I see it all around me and am helpless to do anything about it. The world is like a large machine gathering speed and relentlessly heading to its destiny whether we like it or not. Those who are wise will understand.

I went for a walk into town on Saturday morning as I had a large amount of cash lying around the house which needed depositing in the bank, actually a building society account. My local branches have closed over the last few years and the excuse was to streamline the business but what they really meant was they were cutting back on expenses and staff so that more profit could be made. Gradually banking like taxation has been pushed into our laps and we do all the work ourselves. That has its merits and its shortcomings. Suddenly we could get cash out of a machine and didn’t have to visit a branch of the bank which was a good idea but then there came machines which could take our deposits too. I trust neither of them but am forced to use them as there are fewer staff to do it. Eventually there will be no alternative but that is only the beginning, there are plans afoot to do away with cash altogether and have only cards. It won’t end there. The next step will be an electronic chip embedded under the skin which will do away with any need  with physical representation of our credit. We will then be slaves to the system. (Mark of the beast and all that). Enjoy the freedom whilst it lasts. So there I was at the bank with cash in hand refusing to use one of the machines and standing in wait for a teller to be free. I approached her desk and offered the cash for deposit only to be told that they don’t accept deposits now except through the machines! This time however she took the money but insisted I use the machine in future. I will have no alternative. Just a simple example of the way things are proving to be heading in the direction prophesied over a couple of thousand years by the prophets of The Bible.

Still skeptical?

God isn’t kidding. He warns us in advance of His plans. Where? You might say. It is all in Scripture, all in the written word, The Holy Bible, The Word of God. It is all in prophecy and if it is in prophecy it is surely going to happen. Some prophecies have already been fulfilled, some as yet have to be. If you cannot see what is in front of your own eyes then you are either blind or just plain stubborn or both! You have only to see the developments that have happened during these last few years to know where it is all heading. Allow your spirit an everlasting existence in Heaven. The alternative is hell. Come to The Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.

It is time for a reckoning and a decision. Change your life forever in 2016.

The madness to come

Christmas gifts.
Christmas gifts. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In one calendar month almost everyone in the western world (and the eastern world too) will be celebrating Christmas. Naturally they will not be people of other faiths though even some of them might celebrate. It is intended as a Christian festival though having said that not all will be believers and followers of Christ and will be celebrating for different reasons best known to themselves. Their Christmas will not be a celebration of the birth of Jesus but it will be for a celebration centred around family, presents, partying and other things none of which honour Jesus. When Christ was born (and it certainly wasn’t on December 25th) three wise men, actually mystics from eastern lands had heard that a new king was to be born or had been born and as was the custom in those days when entering into the presence of a king they each brought a gift. The gifts themselves were not given on the day of his birth but some time later, maybe months later. People today might use the argument of giving presents to justify doing that because Jesus received gifts. They are not honouring Jesus by doing that but are simply satisfying themselves. ( http://rcg.org/books/ttooc.html ). Today of course everything is driven by commerce and there is an incessant pressure encouraging us all to buy into it. During the last few weeks and into the next four there will be a bombardment of advertising in the hope that people will buy things they don’t really need for themselves or for others. It seems rather stupid to me that people give gifts and then receive something from the recipient. It isn’t an act of kindness or love but one that is selfish and self-centred, especially when the whole point of Christmas was to celebrate the birth of Jesus as Saviour and praising God for it happening. How many will actually do that? It is a sign of the times I suppose and each year the truth behind Christmas is pushed further into the background until one day the association will be irrelevant. It is already meaningless in the eyes and hearts of many. It is all a sign of things to come, a sign of lawlessness and a turning away from God all prophesied in Scripture. Yes it is all there in black and white, a prophecy many hundreds of years ago and is being ignored because people would rather do their own thing than obey God. We don’t worship God with useless festivals and self-indulgency.

Daniel 12:10  Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14

Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
    including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

If you celebrate Christmas then do it for the right reasons and not for any sense of self-gratification. Remember there is no salvation through material things or self-righteousness, there is only one salvation and this is through Jesus Christ, the one Christmas is supposed to celebrate.

Amazing

DVD selectionFor more than a week I was without work that is until Friday or should I say Thursday for that is when I received phone call requests? Anyway it meant that I had three places to visit and three jobs to do, the last one the biggest. The old guy who had moved in to the house in January had been trying to get someone to separate two lights both operating on the one switch. The strange thing was the lights were in adjacent rooms! Evidently the previous owner had a wall built to make two separate rooms. There had been a large archway in the original set up. However they hadn’t got as far as to put an extra switch in to allow independent control of the lights. Furthermore the now two rooms had their ceilings lowered or rather a false ceiling had been constructed beneath the original ceilings. My job was to disconnect one light from the existing circuit and then re-feed it from another source. It all sounds easy but doing it wasn’t! Anyhow by the time I’d gotten home I didn’t much feel like doing anything else so I didn’t. Nevertheless I got more calls in the evening but refused them all except for one which I promised I would look at on Saturday morning. The other requests were too large for me to tackle but this one was very simple, not really a job at all in the real sense. The lady on the phone explained her predicament in that her lights had fused whilst at the same time indicating that she knew what the problem was, a faulty lamp had caused the fuse to blow. She wanted to know how to replace the fuse. These particular fuses are of the cartridge type and are easy to replace once the fuse carrier could be removed. She was having difficulty in doing that so I explained to her what she had to do and how to replace the fuse as she had some in stock. As long as she didn’t use the faulty light all would be OK and I would pop in on my way to my supplier in the morning to check everything. I had planned to go to the supplier anyway. So I arrived at nine o’clock as promised and she welcomed me in. Everything was in order so I didn’t even need to get out my tools. Instead she offered me a drink of tea and we chatted for a half-hour. When she had opened the door to me I recognised her immediately but said nothing. She is a Christian lady who once went to the same church as myself but she didn’t recognise me, why would she? She had been a member there for seven years and I for ten though perhaps I wasn’t there for the whole period that she had been or vice-versa. In any case she didn’t remember me. I told her that I knew she was a Christian and that I was also and she asked how I knew and which church had I attended. I told her which church, the same one as herself but still the penny hadn’t dropped. I think she assumed our paths had not crossed during our time at the same church. I said I had seen her on several occasions at church venues and functions and she understood. Naturally we talked about the faith and she asked if I was attending a church at present. I am not and I told her so. We talked about prophecy and she showed me some things concerning the subject. It appears we are both interested in such things. I had to leave and she had to get ready for a friend who was calling. They were off to some church event in Liverpool for the day and I was invited along. I declined the offer for I had other plans. She presented me with a sealed DVD labelled ‘The Daniel Project’ for me to view and then pass on to someone else. The material concerns biblical prophecy and takes the form of an hour and a half’s length documentary, a separate half-hour interview and a short three and a half-minute summary of the presentation. It is produced by Studio Scotland Ltd. I had planned to do some gardening after lunch but decided to watch the two-hour presentation instead. I was glad I did for I found it fascinating and well worth the viewing. For myself it was more of an edifying experience but for those who do not believe in God, Jesus and The Bible it would prove to be a real eye-opener. There are many prophecies in Scripture, well over three hundred, and many have been fulfilled. Some have yet to be as I have mentioned in many of my previous posts. The presentation is not out to win souls and it leaves the viewer to ponder the facts for themselves. The real challenge to anyone is presented in the interview following where the facts are presented logically. If you get the chance to view the DVD or wish to purchase a copy I would strongly recommend it as being worthwhile. Incidentally the narrative is presented by a self-confessed atheist who himself had questions to ask in the interview. They were answered.

Here is the link to the site where you may purchase the DVD http://www.thedanielprojectmovie.com/index.htm

A film called The Daniel Connection based on the documentary has been produced and if I get the chance I will certainly go and see it.

I got to do some gardening later in the afternoon.

The prophets

English: Baruch Writing Jeremiah's Prophecies
Baruch Writing Jeremiah’s Prophecies (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

If someone were to tell you that a particular thing would happen to you at a future time you would probably be very skeptical. If however that prophecy came true you might think twice about what was foretold. On the other hand you may think it was just a coincidence. What if someone were to tell you of a future event that not only affected you but that it would affect everyone? Would you think them out of their mind or would you consider that it may be true? You wouldn’t be alone in your skepticism for many in the past have heard prophecies and didn’t believe they would happen. Pity the poor Prophets though who deliver the message in the first place. A prophet must surely be believed if indeed their prophecy becomes true, yes? Trouble with that is that many who have prophesied what in fact became true died long before the event happened and they were forgotten. This happened and is recorded in Scripture though some prophets remained alive to see their prophecies come about. Some people today disregard what is written the The Bible believing it is a collection of fairy tales yet if they read the prophecies and their manifestations they might think twice. The birth of Jesus Christ was foretold long before it happened. Look at these verses:

 Isaiah 9: 6-7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
These verses are but one of the prophecies concerning the birth of Christ. There are others.
Concerning the future state of Israel and again the birth of Christ we read:

Jeremiah 23:5-8

5‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord,
‘when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
    The Lord Our Righteous Saviour.

‘So then, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when people will no longer say, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,” but they will say, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.” Then they will live in their own land.’

What do you make of verse 8 highlighted in red? Is this a reference to the present land of Israel? If it is, and it certainly looks that way then what about other prophecies not yet fulfilled? Those mentioned in the Book of Daniel and Revelations which predict the future of mankind and the coming judgement? If former prophets got it right (they couldn’t fail actually as the messages were from God) then surely these as yet unfulfilled prophecies will come about too? Would you still not believe what God is saying to you? Repent and believe in the One who gave you your life. Turn to Jesus for your salvation for he is the only way to that salvation.

Pray this prayer or something similar if you have made the decision to come to Jesus.  ‘Dear heavenly Father I have rejected you all of my life but now I realise I was mistaken. I am sorry for the things I have done in my life which have kept us apart, my sins. I repent of them and turn to you for forgiveness and salvation. You gave your only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ who became an atoning sacrifice for all those who believe in you and in him. I believe that Jesus took upon himself my sins so that I could go free. He took my punishment, that which I deserve, upon himself. Thank you Jesus for being my Saviour. Thank you Father for Jesus. I welcome The Holy Spirit into my heart right now to be my guide and my teacher. Help me now Lord to follow you all the days of my life.’

Now go and find a church which teaches The Bible’s truth and meet with other Christians to help you in your new life.
